Our serology and immunology department detects antibodies, antigens and hormones in the blood to diagnose infections, immune conditions and thyroid disorders. Serology and immunology look at your immune system and how it responds to infection and disease. The tests work by finding antibodies and antigens in a blood sample. Antibodies are what your body makes to fight something off, so finding them tells a doctor what your body has encountered or is fighting right now. This helps diagnose infections, autoimmune conditions where the immune system attacks the body's own tissue and other immune-related problems. The same laboratory methods are used to measure certain hormones, which is why thyroid testing is carried out in this department. Whether the aim is to identify an infection or to check how well a gland is working, the sample is the same simple blood draw and results are recorded and delivered digitally.

What is Serology & Immunology?
The thyroid controls how fast your body uses energy. When it produces too little the condition is called hypothyroidism and when it produces too much it is called hyperthyroidism. We run five thyroid tests and which one you need depends on what your doctor is looking for.
