Serology Lab

Serology is the branch of science that deals with the study of serum, and is often used to confirm infections caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi. Serology lab tests are performed for the diagnosis of rheumatic illnesses(an illness that affects bone, muscle, joints etc.), or in case if an infection is suspected, or to check the blood type of a person. All these tests are performed on body fluids like blood, saliva, cerebrospinal fluid and semen.

We, at Tesla scans and healthcare, offer a range of serology tests, including ELISA test, HBsAg test, Dengue IgG Test, IgM ELISA test, Leptospira IgG/IgM and Widal Test.

ELISA Test

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test is a blood test that detects antibodies or immune proteins present in your blood.

Our immune system produces an antibody as a response to the presence of a toxic substance called an antigen. The test is often used to diagnose infections like HIV, which cause AIDS, syphilis, Lyme disease etc.

ELISA test involves a simple blood draw, where our healthcare provider will insert a small needle into the vein located inside the elbow or at the back of your hand. Your sample will be sent to our serology lab, where the antigen or antibody will be linked to a certain enzyme. If the test solution changes colour, it indicates that the target substance is present in the sample. No special preparations are needed prior to an ELISA test.

HBsAg Test

The Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Test is a blood test often used in the diagnosis of active or chronic Hepatitis B. Hepatitis B is an infection that affects the liver, which can either be chronic or acute. The symptoms of Hepatitis B are:

  • Jaundice
  • Fever
  • Dark or yellow urine
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal or joint pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Extreme fatigue

Mostly, these symptoms may appear after the infection occurs or may go unnoticed. Your blood sample will be taken in order to perform the test. The Hepatitis B Panel is a set of 3 tests:

  • HBsAg Test
  • Anti-HBs/HBsAb
  • Anti-HBc/HBcAb

HBsAg Test in conjunction with the other 2 tests, can help determine whether the person has Hepatitis B or not.

Widal Test

The Widal test is used to detect bacteria that cause typhoid fever called Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi bacteria through biochemical agglutination test. This test is often used to detect O and H serum agglutinins (A substance that induces coagulation of particles, i.e., from a liquid to solid-state)in your serum.

Your doctor may order for a Widal test to diagnose typhoid fever.

There is a probability of typhoid fever if you’re experiencing symptoms like:

  • High fever
  • Constipation
  • Rose spots(faint rashes on trunk and chest)
  • Diarrhoea
  • Fatigue
  • Dry cough
  • Headache

Our healthcare provider will draw a blood sample from your vein, also known as a venipuncture. Being a rapid diagnostic method, you can avail the results on the same day of testing.

Leptospira IgG/IgM Test

Leptospirosis is a life-threatening bacterial infection that spreads from animals to humans. A bacteria of the genus Leptospira causes Leptospirosis. The test detects IgG and IgM antibodies(2 types of antibodies) present in serum or plasma.

Symptoms of Leptospirosis are-

  • High fever
  • Jaundice
  • Diarrhoea
  • Muscle ache
  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rashes
  • Chills
  • Vomiting
  • Red eyes

If LeptospirosisLeptospirosis is not treated, then it leads to liver failure, respiratory distress, kidney damage or meningitis. Serology lab testing of either blood or urine samples help confirm Leptospirosis.

Since the test only provides preliminary test results, other tests such as ELISA, MAT reference test or PHA are used in conjunction with the Leptospira IgG/IgM test to confirm Leptospirosis.

Dengue IgG Test

Dengue IgG test is often used to diagnose dengue fever. Dengue fever is an infection spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and caused by the dengue virus. The Dengue IgG test detects antibodies produced by the immune system as a response to the infection or dengue virus.

Your doctor may order a Dengue IgG test, if you’re experiencing symptoms associated with dengue fever, such as:

  • Sudden high fever
  • Low count of White blood cells(WBC)
  • Nose or gum bleeding
  • Bone, muscle or joint pain
  • Severe headache

Our healthcare provider will draw a small amount of blood from a vein in your arm for serology lab testing. The test is most effective when you undergo it four days after getting exposed.

Tesla Scans and healthcare specialise in the testing of blood-borne pathogens, as well as examine blood samples to diagnose diseases that can spread from animals to humans, diseases that can be cured by vaccines as well as mosquito-borne diseases.

Our key goal is quality control with accurate results. To ensure this, we make use of the most advanced technologies in order to assure the accuracy of tests undertaken by us and diminish the chances of any error. Our adept and experienced team stays versed in serology lab testing while incorporating the latest upgrades in medical science into the diagnosis of a variety of diseases.
